House and Studio for a painter

An artist needs a quiet and private place to work where he can entirely focus on his project. For this reason, the studio is upstairs by itself. It is a most-opened ample space to get as much softer light needed. It has a unique shape because all his works are exceptional, so the difference in the geometric approach was applied. It has the highest hierarchy of the house.


The systematic organization of the studio depends on where the person stands at the house. The main idea was doing a unique project that in the summertime has a centralized path to the studio and makes it the focus of it. It is also exceptional in the wintertime in NY because it has a winding path to the studio, considering the person is at the master room’s idea.
The path was carefully thought to be unique. In most areas of the house, the owner would have a beautiful view of the garden. No matter Winter or Spring, the owner would be able to bring nature to inside his house in a specular private gathering area. Privacy is essential, and the owner does not need to leave his home to enjoy the life that surrounds his family. It is also his inspirational place to relax, which is the reason we choose a site near to the woods. The mass and void technique were applied.


The work has three rectangles and two applied triangles. The creation of a private garden architecturally applies to a substation of the bigger rectangle and triangle space with overlaps to the larger triangle.


The spaces are organized in a clustered approach based on importance and functionally. The bedrooms are adjacent to each other; the bar area is between the kitchen and the dining room, which has direct access from the living room.


The kitchen overlaps the living room since it has a high hierarchy in the house. It also has a higher plane to demonstrate its importance. The living has an adjacent foyer to welcome friends and family to take their shoes off as requested by the particularity of the artist. The entrance is on the corner of the project, which has a view of both streets.


The hierarchy was the spatial ordering principle used as the following. First, the studio has the highest authority. Second, comes the garden, which has a connection between all the parts of the house. Third, the master room has the most significant area of the layout on the first floor. After that, the hierarchy goes sequentially as kitchen, living room, dining room, children room, guest bedroom, garage, foyer, and bathrooms.

Inspiration


The inspiration for the painter’s home was the LEGO house in Denmark. It brought the nostalgia of the painter’s childhood when he used to build his works with LEGO, and now he sees his children doing the same. The inspiration for this project brings the artist good memories, which makes him appreciate even more his home. The rectangles, triangles, and voids reminded him of his buildings with LEGO when he was a child. LEGO’s vivid colors pieces told him of his arts and the nature surrounding his new house as living inside a childish dream.
